Somatic Experiencing

 
 

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a therapeutic modality developed by Dr Peter Levine. You may be familiar with his books, such as Waking the Tiger. SE is an evidence-based method of working with trauma and PTSD.

instead of working with the mind, in SE we make contact with your nervous system. We can do this in many ways, such as through words, images, movement, emotion, and sensation.

Because the nervous system regulates our emotional state, we can bypass the narrative and directly impact our emotional wellbeing. By learning to navigate our nervous system through co-regulation (with the help of your therapist), we gain geater capacity to self-regulate in moments of stress. Because our bodies naturally know how to disspell trauma, once we have reconfigured our capacity, health will be restored.

SE is built into all of my individual sessions, with your permission, i.e. you don’t have to book this separately. I added a secion here as it is different enough from more regular ways of supporting mental health.
